The solution to these complex agricultural needs is to assist farmers with automated surveillance of the animals. These efforts may lead to increased poultry production with decreased production time and resource usage, but they have also unintentionally led to the proliferation of harmful genetic alterations and the increase in associated diseases. Societal pressures towards sustainability also influence minimal inputs for poultry farming aspects such as land, labour, and natural resource usage. Flock size and growth are commonly maximised in minimal spaces to offset low margins for farmers.
